The Native American Youth and Family Center (NAYA) serves self-identified Native Americans, infant to Elder, in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area. Our mission is to enhance the diverse strengths of our youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education. NAYA was founded by parent and elder volunteers in 1974 and incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1994. Over the last 50 years, NAYA has become a gathering center for Native Americans to practice tradition, teach culture, and build community in a safe and inviting space. NAYA’s wraparound programs impact more than 10,000 individuals from more than 380 tribal backgrounds, through a continuum of critical self-sufficiency, asset building, and educational programs.

Throughout our 54-year history, Native Forward has empowered over 22,000 students from over 500 Tribes in all 50 states by providing scholarship dollars, support services and impactful programming for undergraduate, graduate, and professional degrees. To inspire excellence with impact, we provide a holistic approach to fully support our student’s success. Our services and programming have been proven to result in a higher success rate for Native students. The national graduation rate for Native undergraduate students is 41%. The rate for Native Forward’s undergraduates is 69%. Our graduate students’ rate is a remarkable 95%. Native Forward will continue to be the premier national resource in funding and empowering continued generations of Native students across all sectors by meeting the unmet need of every Native student who has the desire to achieve their degree(s). Over $400 million has been invested into Native students via scholarship programs, support services and Native student-focused programming.
