training for philanthropy
Are you a foundation or philanthropy serving organization that is looking to support or to improve your support of Native-led nonprofits?
Are you looking to change the tide of giving towards equality, equity, and justice for Native communities?
Native nations and communities 101
Why is this important and why is this the reality?
People across the U.S. receive little to no information about Native communities due to systemic erasure in media, education, and government. Decision-makers in various sectors and roles, including foundation CEOs, board members, and program officers, have not received necessary or accurate information to understand, let alone effectively support, Native communities.
“Native nonprofits have not, historically, been provided the opportunity or support to define success on our own terms, in a way that reflects the values and goals of the communities we serve. Rather, the goals and “successes” are more often defined by non-Native funders—those holding the power and monetary resources needed for Indigenous organizations to survive.” Additionally, systemic underfunding of Native-led nonprofits has created an environment of scarcity and competition that “stands in contrast to the values of collaboration and community success that have always supported Native communities to thrive.”

Who is the audience for this training?
Our goal is to reach teams – including staff and boards – at foundations, philanthropy serving organizations, giving networks, foundation councils, corporate giving programs, giving platforms, and nonprofit evaluators.
We seek to work with organizations that have a commitment to action, including evaluating and implementing strategies, policies, and processes that better support Native-led nonprofits and communities.
What do participants gain from this training?
Your team will receive a high-level introduction to key topics and terms that are important to understand as you begin or continue working with Native nonprofits. Gaining this fundamental knowledge will allow you to spend more time digging into the expertise and specific work of Native-led nonprofits and reduce the burden on their teams of educating you on the basics of Native communities.
Your team must commit continue learning through resources we share, other resources available online, and by building relationships with Native communities. We hope that what you learn calls you to act and more effectively support Native-led solutions.

What's Next
Please fill out the interest form linked below with as much information as you can right now. If we have any questions, we’ll reach out to you.
If it looks like your goals might be a good match with ours, we’ll set up an introductory meeting with you and your planning team. This meeting will help us get to know you, learn about your goals for the presentation, and see how this training could support your organization in continuing to learn and take action in support of Native nations, communities, and nonprofits.
Keep in mind, we have a small team, so we plan to offer trainings to up to four (4) organizations in 2025. Whether or not we’re able to host a training for your team, we’re excited to learn more about your work, share how our programs and resources can help you support Native-led nonprofits, and hopefully provide this opportunity to more groups as our team grows!
